Hoof Trimming

The main purpose of trimming a sheep's hooves is to maintain the health and well-being of the animal by preventing foot-related problems such as infections, footrot, lameness, and discomfort.

Before

The hoof trimming process involves carefully inspecting each sheep's hooves for signs of overgrowth, damage, or infection, and then determining the appropriate length of trimming required to maintain proper hoof health and function.

After

I use a special tool to trim and shape the hooves, removing excess growth and reducing the buildup of bacteria and fungi to help prevent issues like footrot. This also ensures the sheep stays balanced, comfortable, and walks with ease.

In addition to trimming the hooves, I provide hoof treatments to prevent/treat infections where needed.

Sheep hoof trimming is typically done on a regular basis, depending on the specific needs of the sheep and the environment they are living in. Some sheep breeds such as Arapawa may require more frequent trimming than others. Especially if ground conditions have been wet or muddy which can cause excessive hoof growth.

Overall, sheep hoof trimming plays an important role in maintaining the health and well-being of your sheep. Ensuring that they can move around comfortably and avoid foot-related problems.
